Burnley Wins First English Premier League Game By Knocking Off The Champs
No comments · Posted by Ross Everett in Recreation & Sports
The English Premier League season is only a couple of weeks old, but newly promoted Burnley has already pulled off what may be the biggest upset of the season in all of European soccer. In their first home game at the top level of English soccer in 33 years, Robbie Blake scored early in the game and Burnley held on to upset reigning league champions Manchester United before 20,000 jubilant fans.
The Clarets were putting good pressure on Man U goaltender Ben Foster early in the game, and Blake made their effort pay at the 18 minute mark when he scored on a near post volley. That was the only score of the game, despite the best efforts of the visitors who seemingly awoke from their slumber at this point and began to put the pressure on the Burnley upstarts.
Still, Burnley would hold the advantage on the big scoreboard at the end of the game thanks to the steady play of their netminder Brian Jensen who withstood the Man U onslaught to preserve the historic victory. Jensens biggest save came on a penalty shot by Michael Carrick just before halftime. Afterwards, Burnley manager Owen Coyle commended Man U general Sir Alex Ferguson with his graciousness in defeat:
“Sir Alex dealt with defeat in the gracious manner I would expect of someone like that. He is the best manager in world football and I still expect Manchester United to be champions.”
Burnley has been the favorite to be relegated back to the Champions League, and they looked like they didnt belong after a 2-0 opening game loss to Stoke City. Coyle addressed the teams critics in his postgame comments:
“One or two have already written us off. I am not surprised about that. When you look at the financial side, we will have to produce every week. Outside this club, everybody looked at our first five games and expected we would be on zero points. We were disappointed on Saturday and we needed to be brave this time. Now we have a massive game on Sunday against Everton, although whatever happens we are three points better off than we were at this stage in the Championship last season.”
Sir Alex Ferguson conceded that his team didnt play well, but wasnt about to minimize Burnleys victory:
“It was a bad performance considering the chances and possession we had. Maybe if we had got the penalty just before half time it would have made a difference but in saying that we were too frivolous with the chances we had. It has been a long time out of the top flight for them and you cannot deny them their victory.”
Burnley will host Everton this weekend, while Manchester United will try to get back on the winning track on the road against Wigan at DW Stadium.

Are you familiar with “no win no fee” claims? These agreements are between a law firm and client and indicate that the client does not have to pay legal fees if the case is lost. On the other hand, be aware that the lawyer will be entitled to compensation if he or she wins. A law firm will receive what is called a “success fee.” Typically, these no win no fee claims involve cases that deal with personal injury. If you are considering pursuing a no win no fee claim, there are some important criteria to consider.
Not all cases will qualify for the no win no fee agreement. Cases where you only pay upon success generally can be classified into one of the following categories: wrongful death, work injuries, malpractice and accidents including construction, bike, auto, airplane and more. Legal action for these cases generally seeks compensation for some type of wrongful act by another. If you think you may qualify for a case where payment hinges on success, contact a lawyer for more information.
If you think that you have a case that will qualify for a payment upon success claim, you will want to talk with a lawyer to find out for sure. Often attorneys offer a free consultation where this can be determined. As you talk with the lawyer, he or she will analyze your case and see if they think you will win. If the lawyer thinks you have a case, he or she may offer to complete your claim as no win no fee. Make sure you are comfortable with the lawyer you choose, as his or her skills may ultimately determine the outcome of your claim.
Another aspect that you will need to be aware of when preparing a no win no fee claim is that you will need to gather together all the relevant evidence and documentation. Keep this evidence in a safe and secure place. You will need items like hospital records, receipts and prescriptions for medicine, receipts for other treatments, records of lost work time, etc. All of this evidence should be carefully collected. Also be sure to contact your doctor and grant your lawyer access to your records.
Finally, you need to be aware that while you may not be paying attorney’s fees unless you win, you may be responsible for other fees no matter the outcome. These other fees include filing fees, court fees and possibly witness fees. These fees can end up being quite a lot of money, so set some funds aside so that you can cover them should the need arise. Choosing a great lawyer is important to ensure your victory and a settlement for your injury.
