Montreal Maintains CFL Dominance With Win Over Winnipeg
No comments · Posted by Ross Everett in Recreation & Sports
The Montreal Alouettes demonstrated the form that has made them the CFLs top team in a Saturday visit to Winnipeg. Anthony Calvillo threw four touchdown passes and the tenacious Montreal defense all but shut down the Winnipeg offense as the Alouettes prevailed easily over the Blue Bombers by a 39-12 score. The Alouettes improved to 6-1 in CFL play, while the Bombers dropped to 2-5.
CFL bettors who backed Montreal cashed their tickets as the Als easily covered as -8 road favorites. Montreal improved to 5-2 against the number while the Blue Bombers slipped to 4-3 against the spread. Interestingly, this was the first time all season that Winnipeg failed to cover as an underdog, having earned the money in four such roles this season before tonights setback. The combined 51 points scored exceeded the posted total of 47, leaving each team with a 4-3 edge to the OVER this season.
Calvillo not only through four TD passes, he through three consecutive passes for touchdowns which is a feat that he cant recall accomplishing before:
“Somebody mentioned that to me out there. I didn’t realize that and they asked me if it’s ever been done or if I’d done it before and I can’t recall.”
Montreals defense held Winnipeg to four FGs and recovered four Blue Bomber turnovers that led to Alouette scores. After the game, Calvillo gave all of the credit for the victory to the defense and insisted that his team had a lot of work to do:
“Our defence put us on the short field throughout the night and we capitalized on the turnovers. We have a lot of work to do. We had a few dropped passes, a few misreads by myself and two turnovers. We’re always looking to improve and we definitely have to improve on offence.”
Kerry Watkins caught one of Calvillos touchdowns and spoke of playing with the CFL legend in his postgame interview:
“It’s a great accomplishment, but something we don’t keep track of. It’s an honour. That’s a living legend. I’ve been so fortunate to play my whole (six-year) career with him.”
Bombers head coach Mike Kelly, who also serves as the teams offensive coordinator, chafed when asked if it was time to revamp the offense:
“There’s nothing wrong with this scheme. I’ve seen this scheme work 1,000 times .If you want to get right down to it, we have to block when we need to block and catch when we need to catch and throw to the right people. And right now we’re not doing those things so we’ll continue to look at it.”
Winnipeg defensive tackle Doug Brown concurred:
“Let’s put it this way, we were in a good enough dogfight without as many critical errors as we made ourselves. You play a team of this calibre, the last thing you need to do is dig yourself your own hole with penalties and turnovers and missed tackles and not executing our assignments and so on and so forth.”
Montreal will host Saskatchewan next Friday night, while Winnipeg travels to Vancouver for a game against the British Columbia Lions.

Raiders Start NFL Preseason Action With Blowout Of Cowboys
No comments · Posted by Ross Everett in Recreation & Sports
The Dallas Cowboys received a solid effort from QB Tony Romo in his first action of the NFL preseason, but ultimately went down in defeat to the host Oakland Raiders by a 31-10 final score. Romo went three and out in his first series, but orchestrated a nice drive on his second go-round culminating in an eight yard touchdown pass to Jason Witten.
Romo did receive some criticism for hooking up with his longtime favorite target Witten rather than involve the rest of the offense. There’s been a lot of concern about the need to develop more long yardage passing threats after the departure of Terrell Owens. After the game, he brushed aside this talk:
“I don’t think it means anything. If one guy caught six straight balls and then we scored, that’s fine, too. It’s just about whatever the defense allows us on that specific play.”
Receiver Roy Williams caught one pass on the evening, and after the game sounded his vote of confidence with the Cowboys offense:
“If we execute like that, any team is going to have trouble. But we’re going to have our adversity and have our hard times where we can’t get open or the quarterback gets sacked or a bad throw. But tonight it all fell into place.”
Raiders QB JaMarcus Russell didnt produce quite as well as Romo in only two series of action, but Oakland coach Bruce Cable still gave him props for a good effort:
“I thought he was very aggressive with the ball, made good decisions. That’s what I’m talking about with him. When he plays the game at a fast enough speed, it allows him to be on time and he showed that tonight.”
Cowboys coach Wade Phillips chalked the loss up to a learning experience:
“Our second group and our young guys, they made a lot of mistakes. You could see them out there. Those things shouldn’t happen but they did. Our guys will learn from those things.”
The Cowboys will continue their NFL preseason play hosting the Tennessee Titans on Friday night. Oakland, meanwhile travel across the bay to play their local rivals the San Francisco 49ers on Saturday. Dallas begins the NFL regular season on Sunday, September 13th at Tampa Bay. Oakland will start their 2009 NFL campaign at home against the San Diego Chargers on Monday, September 14th.

How To Get Passprts And Visas For Beginners
No comments · Posted by Ramon Van Meer in Travel & Leisure
If you are setting up your 1st international trip, the 1st point you will have to have to take care of is acquiring your passport and, if required, a visa to travel to the country or countries that you’re headed to. Whilst these may appear like two really daunting tasks, they are, in fact, pretty simple to take care of. The 1 factor you ought to know, though, is that you will require to plan well in advance to make sure that acquiring your passport and visas doesn’t interfere with your travel plans.
Acquiring your passport
Receiving a U.S. passport is pretty simple, but there are numerous methods in the procedure and it does take some time, so you require to start off planning at least 6 months ahead of your trip. This may well sound like a quite generous figure, but think me, if you leave it to the last minute, you will have your travel plans interrupted by this procedure and you may well find your self getting lost large sums of money on flights and hotels. It is entirely worth it to play this part safe and get your passport and visa taken care of quickly.
To get a U.S. passport, you’ll need various pieces of info:
* Form DS-11 – This basic application form can be filled out on the web and printed, or basically filled in by hand.
* Proof of U.S. Citizenship – Some sort of record proving that you are an American citizen, this kind of as a birth certificate, a previous passport or certificate of naturalization or citizenship.
* Recent photo ID – In addition to proof of your American citizenship, you require to present a second picture ID, such as your driver’s license or a government or military ID.
* Photocopies of your IDs – You also require to provide photocopies of equally your ID and proof of citizenship. Both must be on 8 1/2 x 11 white paper and demonstrate both front and back of every ID. It’s critical to know that the office or post office exactly where you apply will not make these copies for you, so bring them with you.
* Application fee – Methods of payment differ, but normally cash is not accepted. If in doubt, provide a personal check, money order or bank draft.
* Two 2×2 passport photos- These can be used and obtained at travel agencies or pharmacies this sort of as Walgreens or CVS. Alternately, if you have a photo printer at home, you can take and print your very own passport photos for free employing ePassportPhoto.com.
When you’ve gathered all this together, you ought to head for your local passport processing facility. If you don’t live in a big city like Houston or Los Angeles, which have official passport agency offices, then you can go straight to your local acceptance facility, which is normally located in a post office.
That’s it! Once you’ve applied, it can take to several months for your passport to arrive by mail, which is why it is so crucial for you to start this process well in advance of your planned trip. If you are in an emergency or a massive hurry, you can pay extra to have your passport application rushed.
The U.S. Passport agency has also recently developed an online status checker to discover out exactly where in the method your application is.
Getting a visa
A visa is merely an entry document that permits you to come in to a country for a specific purpose and length of time. These days, many countries around the globe do not need Americans to get a visa in advance, but basically give you a stamp in your passport when you arrive to the airport, which serves as a 30- or 60-day tourist visa. Other places still require tourists to acquire a visa before they arrive.
Delta Airlines has a handy function on their web site that enables you to check whether or not you’ll will need a visa based on your citizenship and destination. As soon as you start applying for your passport, you need to check the visa requirements for your destination.
If your destination requires a visa, the next step is to pay a visit to the web site of that country’s embassy in the United States. Generally, these embassy web sites will provide every upfront info about how to obtain a visa very easily. This procedure most generally demands you to send your passport off for numerous weeks for a visa to be processed and set into your passport. Occasionally, particular nations call for you to use a visa support, like Travel Document Systems, to drop your passport away at the nearest embassy for processing, even though other people let you mail your passport directly to the embassy. These services normally charge an extra fee, as well as the price of overnight postage.
When sending your passport off for any type of processing, usually use a traceable mail service that provides you a tracking number so that your crucial documents don’t get lost or stolen!

Social Networking Sites Aid In Getting Back That Ex Boyfriend
No comments · Posted by Carla Schneidt in Dating
With the fast paced and ever growing Internet, it is no wonder that so many people have centered their entire existence on the services available through this unique on-line world. Every single day people spend hours upon hours talking with friends on a variety of social websites where they can send messages back and forth much easier than with sending simple emails. Many individuals use the Internet to correspond with family and friends instead of using their home telephones due to the convenience, which is why the Internet makes a great way to get your ex boyfriend back. In fact, with the help of such social networking sites as Twitter, MySpace, and FaceBook that ex boyfriend really will not stand a chance when he is hit with the powers of the Internet.
When your boyfriend breaks up with you and you want the man back, then do not lay down and cry about it. This is not the time to be calling him and asking him to take you back, but instead it is time to show him you are better off without him. What? Yes, that is exactly what the tactic you are going to use. This tactic is a surefire way to show your ex boyfriend that you have no problem with the two of you breaking up and that you are doing just fine without him.
The best way to use a social network such as MySpace or Twitter or FaceBook is to access your status and change your message to your contact list. Granted that this will only work if your ex boyfriend is still on your contact list. When creating your new status message, you will want to create a message that is straight forward, but that does not mention your recent break up at all. Also, you do not want to give any indication that you are sad or upset. Use this opportunity to show others that you are happy and alright.
However, by continuing to log into your profiles on your social networks such as MySpace and FaceBook, then this will show him that you are still being socially active.
A normal suggestion when dealing with a break up (or when trying to get ex boyfriend back) is engaging yourself in activities-activities you have neglected since you were in a relationship and activities you never had the chance to do. But take this to the next level: take pictures during these events or activities and post it on your profile. Again, this helps reinforce the fact that you’re alright. What you shouldn’t do-at least when you still trying to get ex boyfriend back-is post pictures of you dating. Make it very clear that you’re available, that you have partially moved on in a way that you can do several activities. Dating and telling the world about it means you are no longer with your ex. Making your ex boyfriend jealous may work, but often times it will just drive him away since he will think you are preoccupied with other men.
One clear point that needs to be made is that your social networks should never be used as a means to harass your ex boyfriend simply because this is not the in which to get him back. If you adhere to these suggestions, then you are soon to find that your contact with your ex boyfriend was much greater on-line than you ever dreamed it was. In fact, it shows he actually payed much more attention to things you did than you thought.
