The Arena Football League Reaches The End Of The Line
No comments · Posted by Ross Everett in Recreation & Sports
After canceling their 2009 season, the Arena Football League has shut down entirely and appears headed for bankruptcy. Earlier this week, the league office released a short statement indicated that it had ceased operations because owners were “unable to reach any consensus on restructuring the league over the past eight months.” The leagues statement continued that there are no other viable options available to the league right now.”
Even before the decision was made to cancel the 2009 season this past December, it had been a tumultuous off-season for the Arena Football League. It began with the resignation of long time AFL commissioner David Baker just two days before the Arena Bowl championship game. Though Baker put a positive spin on his resignation saying that he felt it was time, the timing was curious. Imagine the symbolic weight of the gesture were David Stern to resign right before the NBA finals, or Roger Goodell to step down before the Superbowl”even though Baker insisted that it the decision was strictly for personal reasons it doesnt exactly send a positive signal about the stability of the league.
In October, the owner of the New Orleans VooDoo announced that the team would cease operations”despite being one of the league leaders in attendance. In announcing that the team would fold, owner Tom Benson (who also owns the NFL Saints) suggested that the end of the five year old franchise was in no way an indictment of the New Orleans market.
A dispersal draft to reassign the VooDoo personnel was scheduled and postponed several times amid assurances from the AFL office that rumors of financial instability were unfounded.
The inability to get any consensus on a business model for the league reportedly served as the final nail in the AFLs coffin. A major problem was skyrocketing player salaries, and some sort of compensation system tied to team revenues was a necessity. That agreement was reached with the players, but a bigger schism was left between several factions of owners”primarily drawn along lines of overall wealth.
Despite the demise of the Arena Football League, it wont be the end of the road for the twenty two year old sport. known as The 50 yard indoor war . Arena Football lives on in the AF2 league which, ironically, was originally started as something of a developmental organization for the AFL. The league plays in smaller markets and has a more realistic salary structure. A number of current AFL players”and possibly a couple of AFL franchises”could end up in AF2.

Japan’s Pro Wrestling Icon: Mitsuharu Misawa
No comments · Posted by Ross Everett in Recreation & Sports
Mitsuharu Misawa died in Hiroshima, Japan earlier this year less than a week before his 47th birthday. Akitoshi Saito hit a back suplex on Misawa, which appeared to knock him unconscious. Medical staff attempted to revive him in the ring, but when CPR failed he was taken to a hospital by ambulance. Initial reports in the Japanese media suggest that he was pronounced dead at the hospital, but a number of eyewitness accounts have speculated that he may have died in the ring.
There’s at least a small bit of solace in the fact that he died in the ring doing what he loved, and what he did better than just about anyone on the planet. Misawa’s last moments were spent working the kind of brutally stiff, athletically realistic match that got a generation hooked on Japanese wrestling.
A top level amateur wrestler in high school, his skill gained the attention of All Japan Pro Wrestling president Shohei Giant Baba. He made his professional debut in’81, and got his first big break in’84 when he was chosen as the second Tiger Mask replacing Satoru Sayama. In’90, he had his longtime tag team partner (and occasional rival) Toshiaki Kawada unmask him.
Misawa would wrestle as himself from then on, and become an even bigger star in the process. In June,’90 he became one of the top stars in All Japan Pro Wrestling when he defeated Jumbo Tsuruta. That match was his first main event appearance at the famous Nippon Budokan. He soon faced Triple Crown Champion Stan Hansen in an unsuccessful challenge for the title, and would become the biggest star in Japanese pro wrestling for the next decade.
He had legendary battles against Kawada, Hansen, Kenta Kobashi, and Steve Dr. Death Williams in singles competition. Misawa would continue as a mainstay in AJPW until the early part of this decade. After the death of Giant Baba, he left to establish Pro Wrestling NOAH. He would serve as the companys president while wrestling a full time schedule until his untimely death.
Japanese pro wrestling served as an introduction for many American fans into shoot fight sports and MMA. Before the Internet, fans would trade videotapes to stay up on the latest matches from Japan and along with Jushin Thunder Liger and The Great Muta Keiji Mutoh it safe to say that Misawa is one of the wrestlers most responsible for getting a generation of American fans hooked on the product.

A qualified interior designer has completed a two to four year course at a professional design school associated with a university or college. Once they are awarded a degree or certificate of completion, they are then eligible to work as an assistant to an established Toronto interior designer or enter a formal apprenticeship program.
Areas of specialization may require even further training. A combination of education and experience in the field is required in order to take an official licensing test that grants the designer the title of Registered, Certified, or Licensed Interior Designer.
The job of an interior designer in Toronto is to plan interior space of homes or buildings. This usually requires knowing how to use computer aided design software and a basic knowledge of architecture and engineering so the designer is able to conform to local safety and building codes.
The interior designer can choose a specialized area such as becoming a developer of green space with rooftop gardens or the use of green flooring and wall coverings can seek after specialized areas. Ergonomic specialists for workspace designs are also a priority of employers today.
There are plenty of opportunities for interior designers in Toronto homes as well. Here designers can specialize in baths, kitchens, lighting, energy design, or landscaping. A good designer will be in demand if she has smart ideas and is able to stay abreast of changing trends.
The materials and products that are used to furnish a space are well known to the interior designer. Texture, color, lighting and structural considerations are key in presenting an aesthetic environment for the client. Electrical, technical and safety factors also have to be considered in the overall job.
Management strategies are regular goals that have to be met by interior designers. Planning, timing and project management abilities are necessary in order to meet deadlines and rework client suggestions. Proposals and presentations have to be informative and persuasive.
Because architects, contractors and other service providers will be working the same job as the interior decorator, interpersonal communications are vital in dealing with a broad band of people. Negotiating in problem solving may come into play more than once over the course of one project.
The course of the interior designer is ever changing with the fast pace of the world. Future indicators point to a demand in the healthcare industry as the demand for facilities to house an aging population increases. Being able to create a homelike and comfortable environment plus being medically sensitive will be a new challenge in their field.
A career as an interior designer is no longer just designing space according to the client’s needs but also must play a role in project management, specialized areas of ergonomics, environmental concerns and green design. There is a sense of pleasure in making a significant difference in the needs of interior space but one that also includes continued education is an ever-changing world.

Women Who Betray Their Men – Why Do They Do It?
No comments · Posted by Steve Steiner in Dating
Women who betray their men are usually motivated by forces within themselves, and will do so regardless of their man’s actions. Women are constantly analyzing their relationships, and if they get the idea that there’s a serious flaw – even if that’s an inaccurate assessment – she’ll start seeking alternate companions to spend time with. Because she’s already determined that the reason for her cheating is something you’ve failed to do, she’ll easily be able to blame her cheating on you.
Emotional distance, the first of these reasons, is cited as the reason for many breakups. The complaint? “He doesn’t pay enough attention to me, we don’t communicate enough.” Women have many needs, and they’re complex. They need to have a sense of belonging in a relationship, and that need is met by a man’s actions and words. If a woman isn’t made to feel beautiful and valuable, and a real partner in a relationship, she’ll blame the man, regardless of why she really isn’t feeling those things. A woman who feels her man isn’t doing his part is a woman who’ll look for a man who’ll stay emotionally close to her.
The second reason women will cheat on their men is neglect. That’s reasonable, but it’s still fraught with pitfalls. The man who’s always underfoot, always in his woman’s face, will before long be considered to be clingy: too dependent, too needy, too immature – and too replaceable. She’ll feel confined. On the other hand, however, when a man understands that he’s got to give his woman time on her own to grow, and enhance those things he loves about her, she might decide he doesn’t really care. She might decide he’s ignoring her, and she’ll use that space to find another man.
Women, like men, need to have a good sense of self-esteem, and they expect their men to provide a great deal of it. Even though they’re no longer dating, they want their men to continue the “courtship behavior” of complimenting their appearance. As frustrating as it may be to you, she’ll try to get from another man the boost to her self-esteem she feels she’s not getting from you. If a woman isn’t feeling good about herself, no matter what you’ve done to boost her self-esteem, there’s a good chance she’ll decide your efforts are insufficient and start looking for someone who can make her feel better about herself.
Finally, a woman is likely to cheat on her man if she simply feels bored and needs a change of scene. Like a monkey swinging in the trees who won’t let go of one branch until there’s another to grab, she’s satisfied to go about the motions of remaining in a relationship when in reality, she’s already written it off and is looking for a new man. It may be convenient for her to remain in a relationship while shopping for a new man, but it’s emotionally and morally dishonest, as well as highly inconsiderate of the man’s feelings. She’ll likely find all the same old problems in her new relationship.
No matter why your woman cheats on you, the chances for a long and enduring relationship together were dim. True love requires honesty and communication, and a woman who cheats on her man destroys any trust there may have been. Any woman who comes to the conclusion that she’s not getting what she needs from you, and that she’s thus justified in cheating on you, doesn’t deserve to be with you in the first place.
